The opening test of the year was considered a positive outing for Rizla Suzuki colleagues Loris Capirossi (fastest on the first day) and Chris Vermeulen, who now strive to confirm the apparent increased competitiveness of the GSV-R800 at a second track. The 2009 FIM MotoGP World Championship will commence in Qatar with the first GP of the year on 10th-12th April.

Silverstone to host MotoGP GB from 2010

Silverstone will host the British round of the MotoGP world championship from 2010. MotoGP commercial rights holders Dorna announce that the circuit, which hosts the Formula One Grand Prix this season, had agreed a five-year deal. Silverstone hosted the British motorcycle grand prix from 1977 to 1986.

Approval of Donington Park plans secures F1 race

The future of the British Grand Prix secured after Donington Park was given the green light for moving ahead with a proposed £100m revamp to become the home of the F1 race from 2010.

Racetrack owner Simon Gillett now has 17 months to raise the money needed to finance the construction and put it into action.

Silverstone was the home of the British Grand Prix since 1987. With approval from the Council, Donington now takes the reins, as the 10-year agreement to station the race there begins next year. Sport Industry Group

Mazda sponsor the World Aerobatic Games in UK

Mazda will sponsor the World Aerobatic Games which are to take place at Silverstone in August 2009.Details of the sponsorship deal were revealed at the UK Unlimited Aerobatics Championships, also at SIlverstone. Mazda’s Mark Cameron, the company’s UK Marketing Director says that supporting aerobatics is a natural extension of its current interests, and that it will be supporting the sport not just in the top echelons but also at the ‘grass roots’ level.

The British Aerobatic Association, which is hosting the Silverstone World Championships, says that the Northamptonshire race track has committed to promoting the event. Winner of both UK National competitions at Silverstone was Tom Cassells, winning both the Neil Williams Trophy and the David Perrin Trophy. Mark Jefferies was runner-up in both events. www.flyer.co.uk
