Petronas team up with Rossi & Fiat Yamaha MotoGP

Petronas, the Malaysian national oil and gas corporation, has become a major sponsor of the Fiat Yamaha MotoGP team after signing a three-year deal.Petronas branding will appear on the Fiat Yamaha team’s bikes, equipment and uniforms, including that of Valentino Rossi, the sport’s biggest superstar. Petronas has worked with Yamaha for eight years in a variety of fields, but this marks their first collaboration in MotoGP. www.sportsprodailydeal.com

Monster deal for Valentino Rossi

Valentino Rossi is reported to have signed a deal with American energy drink brand, Monster. The reigning MotoGP world champion’s £2.2m two-year deal follows the exit of Kawasaki’s factory team where Monster was a sponsor in 2008.  www.motorcyclenews.com

Is IRC the future of rallying?

With Suzuki and Subaru pulling out of WRC the manufacturer involvement is reduced to it’s lowest level in recent memory with many asking if modern rallying is dead – not so! The Intercontinental Rally Challenge (IRC) is going from strength to strength with strong manufactuer support and the iconic Monte Carlo Rally and San Remo Rally included on the calendar.

Four factory Peugeots, four factory Fiats, two factory Skodas and semi-factory output from Volkswagen proves series promoters Eurosport, who will screen six hours of live coverage of the Monte Carlo rally alone during the coming year, have got the mix right for competitors and fans alike.

The Rallye Automobile Monte Carlo, the opening round of the 2009 Intercontinental Rally Challenge, runs from January 20-24.

In total 65 crews are due to start with 19 in Super 2000 cars, including reigning IRC champion, Nicolas Vouilloz, as well as Giandomenico Basso, Juho Hanninen, Freddy Loix, Luca Rossetti, Jan Kopecky, Stephane Sarrazin, Didier Auriol and Toni Gardemeister.

FIAT continue as title sponsor of Yamaha MotoGP team

Fiat will continue as title sponsor of Yamaha’s factory MotoGP team for the next two seasons. Fiat replaced Camel as title sponsor in 2007 and clinched the riders’ world championship with Valentino Rossi in 2008. Rossi and 2008 rookie of the year Jorge Lorenzo will continue as Fiat Yamaha Team riders 2009. www.yahoo.co.uk
